Description
On June 13, 1980, in Wylie, Texas, suburban wife and mother Candy Montgomery went to the home of her friend Betty Gore—and by the time she left, Betty had been struck with an axe 41 times.
The two women were connected by church, friendship, and a devastating secret: Candy had been having an affair with Betty’s husband, Allan Gore. When Betty confronted Candy about the affair, Candy later claimed the confrontation turned violent and that she killed Betty in self-defense.
The brutal murder shocked a quiet Texas community and led to one of the most sensational trials of the era. Candy Montgomery admitted she killed Betty Gore, but a jury ultimately found her not guilty of murder.
This is the true crime case of Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore—a story of infidelity, jealousy, rage, an axe, and a courtroom verdict that remains controversial decades later.- Sources used for this podcast
