הוראה ממ"ש [ברביעי דפ' נצבים] "ושב ה' אלקיך את שבותך וגו'", ".. הכתיב גאולה לעצמו שהוא ישוב עמהם": כאשר יהודי שואל כיצד יכול להתכונן לקראת הגאולה ולעבוד עבודתו כדבעי ולא להתפעל מחושך העולם?! עליו לדעת שכל זמן שהוא נמצא בגלות נמצא ה' ביחד עמו! וא"כ, איזה תפיסת מקום יש לחושך העולם?! בודאי יצליח למלא שליחותו של ה' ובשמחה! אם בשעת עריכת ה"חשבון נפש" בחודש אלול רואה שישנם ענינים שהי' יכול לעשות באופן נעלה יותר ושואל איך יוכל לתקן א"ז ‏–‏ ע"ז נאמר בהמשך הפרשה "ומל ה' אלקיך את לבבך ואת לבב זרעך" ר"ת אלול ‏–‏ בחודש אלול נותן ה' סיוע מיוחד לעבודת התשובה! ובפרט שהרי המלך בשדה וכו'.

The verse states [in the fourth aliya of Parashas Nitzvim), “Then Hashem your G-d will return with your captivity etc.”: When a Jew wonders how he can be expected to prepare for the Redemption and perform his Divine service without being deterred by the darkness of exile, he must know that as long as he is in exile, Hashem is together with him! Thus, the darkness of the world is of no consequence; he will certainly succeed in fulfilling Hashem’s shlichus, and doing it with joy! If, during one’s stocktaking in the month of Elul he sees that some things could have been done better, and he wonders how to fix it – to this, a subsequent verse states, “Hashem will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring,” an acronym for Elul: in the month of Elul Hashem provides special assistance for the service of teshuvah! Especially when the king is in the field etc.
