Luke 15:11-32 In search for significance

Our story today comes from a parable of Jesus which is well known to us, and there are three characters in this drama. There’s the younger brother, who takes his inheritance and squanders it. There’s the older brother, who stays at home working for his father. And there’s the father himself, who has to deal with his two boys, and deals with them with remarkable tenderness and generosity.

The younger son tries to find significance by way of self-discovery and expression. This is a dismal failure. The older son and the younger son also endeavor to find significance through personal effort. However, the father displays unconditional love and reminds us of our heavenly Father, our perfect Father who shows us amazing Grace, redeeming us through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ.
