עיקר כוונת הבעש"ט ואדמו"ר הזקן ביסוד תורת החסידות היתה שזה יגיע לכאו"א מישראל, אפי' לפשוט שבפשוטים. וזהו גם מה שאף שקודם התגלות דרך החסידות היתה דרכם של גדולי ישראל בהנהגת בנ"י באופן שהם היו יושבים במקומם ויהודים היו באים אליהם לשאול בעניני התורה, ובמילא היתה ההשפעה רק לאלה שהרגישו שחסר להם ובאו ודרשו שימלאו את חסרונם, הנה בהתגלות תורה חסידות ע"י הבעש"ט ואדמו"ר הזקן נעשה חידוש כללי בזה – שלא המתינו עד שיבואו אליהם אלא נדדו ממקומם להביא את אור התורה לכל מקומות מושבות בנ"י. ועוד ענין: התחלת פעולת הבעש"ט היתה בנוגע לילדים קטנים, וכידוע שקודם התגלותו הי' הבעש"ט משמש בתור "בּאַהעלפער" למלמד תינוקות ב"חדר"! ועפ"ז מובן גם הטעם לריבוי הכחות שכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר השקיע במיוחד בנוגע לתשב"ר. ובעמדנו ביום ח"י אלול, יום ההולדת של הבעש"ט, צרכים לידע שהבעש"ט נתן כחות לכאו"א מאתנו להיות בעצמו "בּאַהעלפער" ואח"ז גם לחזר אחר אנשים פשוטים הנמצאים בסביתו ולהאיר את נפשם האלקית וכו'.

The goal of the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe in establishing Chassidus was for it to reach all Jews, even the simplest among them. Therefore, while Jewish leaders before Chassidus would remain in their place and wait for people to come and ask for guidance, meaning they were only able to influence those who recognized they were lacking and sought to fill that lack, the Baal Shem Tov and the Alter Rebbe took a profoundly different approach: instead of waiting for people to come to them, they travelled around to bring the light of the Torah to anywhere Jews lived. Another thing: the Baal Shem Tov started out as an assistant to a cheder teacher. Thus, we can understand why my father-in-law the Rebbe invested so much effort in teaching young school children. And on the day of Chai Elul, the birthday of the Baal Shem Tov, we must know that the Baal Shem Tov gave everyone the ability to first be a helper himself, and then go about his surrounding and ignite the Divine soul within those around him etc.
