The Power of Prayer in the Life of Jesus: Prayer is Surrendering to God’s Will
Description
PRAYER IS NOT COMMANDEERING GOD BUT IT IS ALIGNING MY WILL TO HIS WILL. WHATEVER WE ASK IN PRAYER MUST BE SUBJECT TO GOD’S WILL.
1 John 5:14-15
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Matthew 26:39-42
And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. 40And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. 42He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
Romans 15:3
For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.
John 6:38
For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.
THE SONG “ALL TO JESUS I SURRENDER” IS EASIER SANG THAN PUT IN PRACTICE ESPECIALLY IF GOD’S WILL CUTS ACROSS THE GRAIN OF MY HUMAN DESIRE.
All to Jesus I surrender, All to him I freely give;
I will ever love and trust Him, in his presence daily live;
CHORUSI surrender all; I surrender all;
All to Thee my blessed Saviour,
I surrender all.
All to Jesus I surrender, humbly at his feet I bow;
Worldly pleasures all forsaken take me Jesus, take me now;
All to Jesus I surrender, make me Saviour, wholly Thine;
Let me feel the Holy Spirit, truly know that Thou art mine;
WHEN WE SURRENDER TO GOD’S WILL EVEN IF IT IS PAINFUL HE WILL SUSTAIN US AND GIVE US SOMETHING BETTER INSTEAD
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 8For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 9And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
Psalm 34:10
The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
Psalm 84:11-12
For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. 12O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.
We all desire immediate and direct answers to our prayers, and are tempted to become discouraged when the answer is delayed or comes in an unlooked-for form. But God istoo wise and good to answer our prayers always at just the time and in just the manner we desire. He will do more and better for us than to accomplish all our wishes. And because we can trust His wisdom and love, we should not ask Him to concede to our will, but should seek to enter into and accomplish His purpose. Our desires and interests should be lost in His will. – {Gospel Workers p. 219.1}
Proverbs 3:5-7
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own und
