Portia Mason was born and raised in California. Portia lost her eyesight completely at the age of fourteen years old. Even while living with her vision loss, she wanted to be a nurse. She learned that she could not but needed to find something else to do as a career. After graduating high school, Portia decided to go to a local Community college and get her degree in Business Administration. It took her four and a half years to finish but she did it. Portia did face some challenges but found ways to overcome them. After college in 1993, Portia became employed at a local Air Force Base here in Southern California. she worked there off and on for about two and a half years. For some of the time Portia was a Medical Secretary and the rest of her employment career in 1996, she was hired to work as a General Office Assistant. Portia is also a part of Vision100 where they are striving to represent one hundred cities.
