מפתחות ביהמ"ק היו בידי "פרחי כהונה". ועד"ז בנוגע ביהמ"ק הרוחני: "פרחי כהונה" הם בני הישיבות. ונעשים ראויים לזה ע"י שמקבלים ע"ע את מרות הנהלת הישיבה ולשמור את כל סדרי הישיבה. ולידם נותנים "מפתחות" של "ביהמ"ק". תפקיד השוער המחזיק את המפתחות הוא לפתוח הדלת בפני הראויים להכנס ולסגור הדלת בפני אלו שאינם ראויים להכנס, ובעניננו: ההכנה היחידה להיות ראוי להכנס לביהמ"ק היא‏ – ‏להיות טהור. וברוחניות: אמונה טהורה (ללא "דעות הרעות"). ומכיון שה"מפתחות" הם בידים של בני הישיבות, עליהם האחריות לדאוג שדלת ביהמ"ק תהי' פתוחה בפני כאו"א מישראל. אלא שעליהם מוטלת גם האחריות [לא להסתגר בד' אמות של תורה ותפלה של עצמם, אלא] להכין את כאו"א מישראל שיהיו ראויים להכנס, עי"ז שיטהרו אותם מ"דעות הרעות" ולהטבילם ב"מי הדעת הטהור". בנוגע לפועל: על בני הישיבות לנצל את הזמן הנשאר בחודש אלול עד ר"ה להתפזר בכל העיר, בכ"מ שנמצאים יהודים, ולהסביר להם ענינם של "אלול", "סליחות", י"ב ימים שבין ח"י אלול לר"ה שבהם ניתן לתקן את כל העבר במשך השנה.

The keys to the Beis Hamikdash were given to the pirchei kehuna, and this also applies to the spiritual Beis Hamikdash: the pirchei kehuna are the yeshiva students.
