Ep 48: How to choose a great accountant – an insiders perspective

Season 3 Episode 27

Send us a text

In this episode, Mena and Stuart discuss what they think makes a great accountant, including:

  • The difference between a satisfactory accountant and a great one can be huge. A great accountant will save you more than they will charge you by giving proactive advice. A cheap accountant is expensive because they miss opportunities which gives rise to more tax.
  • They get to know you. The more they know about you and your business, the greater scope there is for them to add value. The old saying: Theodore Roosevelt — 'People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care' Asking about you and your business shows they care.
  • They are technically sharp. They must keep on top of tax laws and rules. Monthly tax training is the highlight of our month.
  • We can rush through work just to “get it down” but the real challenging is taking a step back and thinking about the work and client. If your accountant is always behind, chances are they don’t have the time to invest in proactive advice.
