4. "What is a heart but a house” - Moving after divorce, living by yourself, and making your heart a home

Season 1 Episode 4 Published 2 years, 10 months ago
Description

Sometimes when we reach a crossroads in life, we're hit with several things all at once and can so easily become overwhelmed. There is a grieving process. We have to learn to let go of what we had, what we used to know, who we were, in order to make space for the new.

With healing, we continue to go back to gather ourselves, each time picking up the pieces and learning how to keep those safe, without holding on too tight to what they once meant, what they once signified. It is this gathering process that allows us to make space. That internal letting go eventually finds its way into the physical and before long, we're on the move.

This week, I return after a long hiatus to explain where I've been: moving homes and moving lives. I discuss how to navigate life's big changes and what moving had in store for me, including the MANY mishaps that happened in the first two days.

Topics I cover:

  • What to expect with moving: how it may leave you exhausted and feeling like a blank space (without the catchy song)
  • My experience with simultaneously buying and selling a home after divorce
  • How to let go of people, places & things no longer serving you
  • Working through grief and the importance of support and asking for help
  • The "joy of home ownership" two days in (spoiler alert: MANY UNWANTED SURPRISES!)
  • Tips and advice for moving
