For over ten years he was a professor of philosophy at the University of South Carolina, Georgia State, and the College of Charleston, where he taught courses on biomedical ethics, engineering ethics, logic & argumentation, the philosophy of technology, and science & religion.

As an ethicist, Michael has authored ethics curricula used both by government agencies and Fortune 500 companies.
