Description
Supernatural Season 4, Episode 5, Monster Movie recap 🧛 The whole episode is in glorious black and white as a love letter to the classic Universal monster movies, with Dracula, the Wolf Man, and the Mummy terrorizing an Oktoberfest in Pennsylvania on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Plus, post-hell Dean in lederhosen.
By listener request, we're now telling you what we're drinking (black cherry and mango White Claws, so creative). The boys roll into a small Pennsylvania town in the middle of Oktoberfest, where someone's attacking people dressed as classic movie monsters. Dean's in a great mood: he's back from hell, he's on a mission from God, and he's getting cozy with Jamie the waitress (Melinda Sward). Sam is just trying to figure out who's behind this (Berly would have bet money on the Trickster... and lost!).
Episode Highlights:
- The black and white, the big moon, the fog, the music, the shadow play. Chef's kiss.
- Dean's post-hell glow-up: lighthearted, carefree, and wearing LEDERHOSEN
- The giant beer stein with the little lid (open, gulp, close, repeat)
- Lucy (Holly Elissa), who blots her lipstick WAY too much
- A Wolf Man with great makeup
- Gooey autopsy sounds (in black and white, it looked like brisket)
- Ed (Michael Eklund, Bobo Del Rey from Wynonna Earp) fully committing to the bit, pants or no pants
- Dracula (Todd Stashwick), the cape, the medallion, the moped
- The first fully campy episode we've had since early season three
In the lore segment, we dig into the real-life origins of the movie monsters: Dracula and Vlad the Impaler, werewolf legends from the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mummy and the curse of King Tut's tomb, the 19th-century science shows that inspired Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (animal carcasses moving with electricity!), and the real crimes behind Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
"Hero gets the girl, monster gets the gank. All in all, a happy ending." – Dean Winchester
