The ins and outs of residential investing through an SMSF

Published 2 years, 9 months ago
Description

With about 700,000 SMSFs set up in Australia, there are a lot of people taking control of their super, and many of them are using property investments to power their retirement savings.

On this episode, Raymond Hempstead, managing director and founder of One Contract Property, sits down with SPI’s Phil Tarrant to talk about property investing inside your self-managed super fund (SMSF).

The duo discuss some of the legislation around investing in property within an SMSF, and why the practice has waxed and waned in recent years.

Raymond explains the logistics to take into account around building a property to hold in your SMSF, and how in some cases that can offer an even greater capacity to generate cash flow than an existing home that you might purchase.

They also examine the tax savings of holding a property in an SMSF, versus in a company or personal name.
