Lesson 6 - 1 John 1:1...this is the Word of life.
Description
Welcome back to the Hope Bible School verse-by-verse Bible study of 1 John.
Last lesson we focused on touching Jesus by faith. You can touch Jesus by faith by believing in Him, by knowing that He is with you always, by drawing near to Him, by praising Him, by thanking Him, by worshiping Him, by taking communion, and by abiding in Him.
In this lesson, we are going to learn that Jesus is the message of eternal life.
Let’s read our verse.
1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our own eyes, which we have gazed upon and touched with our own hands—this is the Word of life.
Let’s focus on…this is the Word of life.
This eternal being, which was heard, seen, gazed upon, and touched is known as the Word of life.
The Word of life is another name for Jesus.
“The Word” is the Greek word “Logos.”
“Logos” means thought, discourse, the principle of speech, divine expression, or the mind of God.
Words are used to communicate. Words are a message from the mind of one that is communicating.
Jesus, the Word of life, is the message who gives us eternal life.
The self-existent God of eternity wants to make the message of eternal life so clear to all of humanity that He became a man and lived on this earth for many years and interacted with thousands of people.
God delivered this message of eternal life in person.
In John 1:14 we read about the Word that become flesh and dwelt among us.
The Word is Jesus.
John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
In Hebrews 1:1-3, we read about how God communicated to humanity through the prophets and then, spoke to us through His Son, Jesus. When you see Jesus you are seeing the exact representation of God.
Hebrews 1:1-3 On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets. 2 But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
God’s plan was to become a man and live among us, in order to communicate clearly to us about how to have eternal life.
You can see this prophesied by Isaiah in Isaiah 7:14.
Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.
This prophecy was fulfilled. We read about the fulfillment in Matthew 1:22-23.
Matthew 1:22-23 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Behold, the virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they
