Share Your Testimony

Welcome back to our verse-by-verse Bible study of 1 John. Last lesson we focused on how Jesus was concealed in the Old Testament and was revealed in the New Testament. We also learned that Jesus wants to continue to reveal more and more about Himself to you. Ask Him to reveal more of Himself to you, seek Him earnestly, knock on His door, and seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

In this lesson, we’re going to learn about sharing your testimony.

1 John 1:2 And this is the life that was revealed; we have seen it and testified to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us.

Let’s focus on we have seen it and testified to it.

The disciples saw Jesus, the Word of life, with their own eyes. They experienced Jesus firsthand. They were with Him. Jesus revealed Himself to them. However, they didn't just see Him but testified to the life that was revealed.

Testified means to bear witness, to give evidence, or to give a good report.

Even though you can't "see" Jesus as the disciples did, you can see Him with the eyes of faith and you can testify to what Jesus is doing in your life.

If you’re a follower of Jesus, there was a time in your life when you didn't know Jesus. Do you remember? Then, you came to know Him. You began to see Him with the eyes of faith. He revealed Himself to you.

Then, once you began to see Jesus with the eyes of faith, you could see Him change your life. You stopped doing things to please yourself and you started doing things to please God.

You have a testimony of seeing Jesus change your life.

God wants you to share your testimony with others.

Here’s a simple way that you can share your testimony. Write out these three questions and then write out your answers.

1. What was my life like before believing in Jesus?

2. When did I believe that Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day? Tell the story.

3. How do I see Jesus transforming my life now?

Once you have written out your testimony, please share it with others. You could share it on social media, on a website, with your friends, family, and fellow believers, at ministry meetings, on retreats, and with people that you meet.

The disciples are an example to you. They saw Jesus and testified about Jesus to everyone. Now that you have seen Jesus by faith and He is transforming your life, share your testimony with others.

Here are some verses that talk about sharing your testimony and being a witness.

In Revelation 12:11 we read that our testimony helps conquer the enemy. There is tremendous power when you share your testimony. Think about how Jesus has transformed your life. He can do the same for others. He wants to use your testimony to help others to conquer the enemy.

Revelation 12:11 They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And they did not love their lives so as to shy away from death.

In Acts 1:8 we read that the Holy Spirit will give us the power to share our testimony. If you’re afraid to share what Jesus is doing in your life ask God to give you the power to share your testimony to the ends of the earth.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive
