Description

Welcome back to the Saturday coffee klatch with Heather Lofthouse, executive director of Inequality Media, where we examine the best and the worst of the previous week.

Today we take a look at teachers — among the hardest-working and least-appreciated people in our society. Heather and I both owe a great deal to the teachers in our lives. (I went to a small public school in New York state in the 1950s and early 1960s; Heather, to schools in Los Angeles in the 1980s and 90s.)

America now faces a serious shortage of teachers, in no small part because they’re paid so little. They’ve also received the brunt of public anger over issues ranging from the teaching of America’s history of racism to gender identity.

Please grab a cup and pull up a chair.
