One may wonder how prisons could be considered a cash cow for small town USA. After all, prisons are institutions designed to contain, rehabilitate and punish felons, and they are not known to bring in revenue for communities around them. However, the reality is quite different. In many parts of the United States, small towns benefit greatly from prisons and view the facilities as significant contributors to their economies. In this episode I discuss the fight many small towns are waging to keep prisons open.
