[Bonus Episode] Overcouplings & Prejudice: Accepting Your Bias Can Prevent Racism (The HLN Team w/ Special Guest Simone Grace Seol)

Published 2 years, 9 months ago
Description

On today's episode, the HLN team is joined by Simone Grace Seol, and they discuss overcouplings as they relate to race and prejudice.

Simone had posted on Instagram about the phrase “I don’t see color", and Luis was curious to explore the statement through the lens of somatics.

They discuss:

  • the difference between your mind’s reactions and the body’s reactions
  • the difference between innocence vs hiding behind innocence, and using it as a blindspot
  • how somatics can destigmatize the work of uncoupling biases

The only way to feel and recognize someone else’s trauma (caused through systemic repression) is to build capacity for one’s own trauma. When you realize bias is something your body is doing, and not something you're intentionally doing it, it takes away the shame, so you can explore with curiosity.
