Description

Note: we had some connection issues and there are some glitches in the audio and video. Nevertheless, this was a fantastic and informative conversation, and despite a few little hiccups, it is easy to follow. Thank you for your patience with the tech! Jaco van Zyl is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland, and is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. He completed his undergraduate studies in microbiology, chemistry, psychology and linguistics at the University of South Africa (UNISA), and his postgraduate studies at UNISA and the University of Limpopo. He works integratively from a psychodynamic perspective, gleaning from modalities including Jungian psychology, Ego-state psychology and body-focused therapies. Jaco provides therapy to adolescents, adults and families. He has a special interest in personality pathology and its relationship with mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-spectrum disorders, eating disorders, addiction and sexuality. Referenced in the conversation: Vamik Volkan (2014). Psychoanalysis, International Relations and Diplomacy - A Sourcebook on Large-Group Psychology Bradley Campbell & Jason Manning (2018). The Rise of Victimhood Culture - Microaggressions, Safe Spaces and the New Culture Wars Melanie Klein (1957). On Envy and Gratitude.
