The Theory of Truth, will Not Save You: Live the Word

Description

EMPTY THEOLOGICAL TALK ABOUT THE TRUTH, EVEN RECITING ENTIRE BIBLE CHAPTERS, DOES NOT HELP US UNLESS WE PUT IT INTO PRACTICE DAY BY DAY.  IT IS THE TRUTH IN OUR DAILY LIVING THAT COUNTS WITH GOD.  PRACTICAL GODLINESS IS THE MISSING COMPONENT IN MANY CHRISTIAN LIVES. MANY HAVE HEAD KNOWLEDGE ONLY OF TRUTH WITHOUT HANDS ON EXPERIENCE IN THE TRUTH.

James 1:21-22

Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. 22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Luke 6:46-49

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. 49But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.

John 13:17

If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

The test of sincerity is not in words, but in deeds. Christ does not say to any man, What say ye more than others? but, “What do ye more than others?” Matthew 5:47. Full of meaning are His words, “If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” John 13:17. Words are of no value unless they are accompanied with appropriate deeds. – {Christ Object Lessons p. 272.2}

James 4:17

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

WHAT ONE DOES HAS MORE VALUE THAN WHAT ONE SAYS OR TEACHES

Romans 2:19-24

And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, 20An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. 21Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 22Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 23Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? 24For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

If we ever know the truth, it will be because we practice it. We must have a living experience in the things of God before we are able to understand His word. This experimental knowledge is what strengthens the intellect and builds us up into Christ our living Head. – {Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students p. 97.2}

POWER TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT IS FROM GOD ALONE! TRYING TO OBEY HIS WORD WITH HIS AID IS FUTILE AND HYPOCRITICAL

John 15:5

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Romans 7:18-24

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me. 22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: 23But I see
