Bonefish, Permit and the Cuban Experience with Matt Sprecher

Episode 91 Published 2 years, 11 months ago
Description

Our destination is Cayo Cruz on the north shore of Cuba with Matt Sprecher, Alaska Steelhead Co.  Cuba is quickly gaining a reputation as THE place for fly-fishing for world-class Permit and Bonefish reminiscent of the Florida Keys 60-70 years ago.  Large schools of unpressured trophy fish and enormous flats mean fly fishing so good it borders on chaos.

About our guest, after dropping out of college, Matt moved to Colorado and became a house painter.  Along the way, he picked up a fly rod working as a rookie guide in Vail, eventually starting his own fly shop and guide service, which became one of the largest in the country.   Matt gives us the low down on Cuba, tips on permit and bonefish, and why he brings magic markers and cheese whiz on every trip.

With host, Steve Haigh
