Episode Details

Supernatural Season 3, Episode 5, Bedtime Stories recap 📖 Someone in Maple Springs, New York, is acting out the Brothers Grimm, and not the Disney versions, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Three Little Pigs, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, a poisoned apple... it's every bedtime story you grew up with, gone horribly wrong.

It starts with three brothers at a construction site and a man growling like a wolf (he huffed and he puffed). Then a couple lost in the woods stumbles on a sweet little old lady's house, and things get gruesome. The boys realize the attacks are following fairy tales, and a quiet little girl keeps showing up right before each one. Meanwhile, Sam is still haunted by Dean's deal, and he's got a plan of his own.

Episode Highlights:

• Berly's GIANT cocktail (a true cautionary tale)
• Sam, the world's best sketch artist
• Sam's terrible shirt-and-tie combo, again
• A toad, a pumpkin, and a poisoned apple
• A Cinderella horror tale
• Mood ring eyes
• Dean vs. the Big Bad Wolf
• THREE blood splooges
• Sam's trip to the crossroads, same demon dress, different demon (Sandra McCoy)

In the lore segment, we dig into the dark origins of fairy tales: the Great Famine of 1315 and Katharina Schraderin, the gingerbread baker accused of witchcraft, behind Hansel and Gretel; Rhodopis, the ancient Greek slave girl behind Cinderella; and Margaret von Waldeck, the 16th-century Bavarian noblewoman who may have inspired Snow White. Plus, a detour into medium Lillian Bailey, whose clients supposedly included Mae West and the Queen Mother.

"I'm gonna go stop the Big Bad Wolf, which is the weirdest thing I've ever said." – Dean Winchester
