Heaven Calls Them Blessed: Blessed are the Meek (The Example of Jesus Part 3: Forgiveness Not Retaliation is the Motto of the Meek)
Description
Matthew 5:5
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
WE ARE TO LEARN OF CHRIST THE SPIRIT OF FORGIVENESS AND OVERCOME THE SPIRIT OF HITTING BACK THOSE THAT CROSS OUR PATHS. JESUS SUFFERED WITHOUT RETALIATION!
1 Peter 2:21-23
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously?
REVENGE, RETALIATION AND AN UNFORGIVING SPIRIT DOES YOU MORE HARM THAN THE RECIPIENT OF YOUR UNCHRISTIAN PASSION! THEY ARE LIKE A DANGEROUS ACID THAT CORRODES THE CONTAINER THAT CARRIES IT
However unjustly we may be treated, let not passion arise. By indulging a spirit of retaliation we injure ourselves. – {Christ Object Lessons p. 171.3}
Matthew 26:67-68
Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands, 68Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
Mark 15:29-32
And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, 30Save thyself, and come down from the cross. 31Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save. 32Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.
Luke 23:34
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
THE MEEK AND LOWLY JESUS LIVED WHAT HE TAUGHT ABOUT FORGIVENESS AND ALL HIS FOLLOWERS ARE TO WALK EVEN AS HE WALKED IN THE PATH OF FORGIVENESS.
Matthew 6:9-15
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. 14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
He who is unforgiving cuts off the very channel through which alone he can receive mercy from God. We should not think that unless those who have injured us confess the wrong we are justified in withholding from them our forgiveness…. However sorely they may have wounded us, we are not to cherish our grievances and sympathize with ourselves over our injuries; but as we hope to be pardoned for our offenses against God we are to pardon all who have done evil to us. – {Thoughts from Mount of Blessings p. 113.3}
Ephesians 4:31-32
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
