Published 5 years, 1 month ago
Description

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Jeff Risdon react to the news about Matthews Stafford asking to be traded away from the Lions. It was a move that stunned the NFL world and began a scramble to assess where he might possibly land. Back in Detroit Lions land, fans and media alike began to wonder what the team might look like without Matthew Stafford, and what we might be able to get in return.

Detroit Lions Podcast Analyzes Matthew Stafford Situation

We start the conversation professing our love for Matthew and what he’s brought the Detroit Lions over the years, but understand why he is making the decision that he is. We also discuss just how different things can be just two months later. One example is that a popular mock draft had Justin Herbert going 1st overall in the 2020 draft in January of that year. Information changes, situations change, where we think Matthew Stafford might be going today, will likely be much different on March 17th when the opportunity to actually ink a trade deal begins. From there we start the speculation of where he might go, and what he Lions might get for him, because, why not?

A Lot More Than Matthew Stafford News Broke This Weekend

The Lions announced a number of new coaches and front officer personnel. We dive into those folks including names like John Dorsey to the front office, Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator, and Anthony Lynn who is to sign on as offensive coordinator. There’s a lot to like in those names, but Chris and Jeff are especially enamored with the re-signing after a street fight style negotiation of offensive line coach, Hank Fraley. Fraley embodies what the Lions need in a coach, tough, smart, relatable, and hungry. Hank is a man who not only knows football, he absolutely loves it. That passion for the game and his ability to teach is the main reason we have an offensive line that has improved so much since his arrival.

Senior Bowl Coverage Kicks Off!

It was recently announced that there will be no NFL Combine this year. Teams will be resorting to the Senior Bowl and pro days to evaluate players and talent. This is a real blow to fans as they won’t have the coverage that they usually do in the lead up to the NFL Draft. This also makes the Senior Bowl practices much more important. Just about everyone in the Detroit media is going to be reporting on the information they get from other outlets for their Senior Bowl and player coverage. As always, The Detroit Lions Podcast will be covering the Senior Bowl as credentialed media. We’ll have player interviews, film of players during practice, a number of live shows, and a whole lot more. Be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications on our YouTube channel for the latest information from the Senior Bowl all week.
