In this thought-provoking sermon, we explore the message to the church in Thyatira from Revelation 2:18-29. The message to Thyatira is a timely reminder for Christians to be vigilant against the alluring, deceptive nature of sin and how Jesus can help us overcome it.

We begin by providing historical context, painting a vivid picture of the early church in Thyratira – a thriving trade center known for its dyeing, weaving, and metalworking industries. This bustling city also had a plethora of pagan cults and religious practices, which greatly influenced the believers' lives.

Our focus then shifts to the spiritual symbolism of Babylon, representing the worldly systems and values that seduce believers away from their faith. We unpack how the church in Thyatira tolerated the teachings of Jezebel, who lured followers into sexual immorality and idolatry. This tolerance is a warning to us, as Christians today, to be wary of permitting similar influences in our lives.

Pastors Eric, Mark, Susan, Daniel, and other Village leaders open the Scriptures as the witness to God’s kingdom breaking into our lives. Scripture gives us more than abstract ideas. It is the Word of God, given to form us, confront us, comfort us, and teach us how to follow Jesus.

Each episode invites us to listen and respond. We are learning to understand the Bible more faithfully; we are also learning how to live as God’s renewed people.

Week by week, our pastors and leaders talk about the practices of Christian discipleship, including prayer, fasting, generosity, Scripture memory, worship, and life together. These practices belong to a whole life formed around Jesus.

The podcast also speaks to ordinary places where faith is lived; our relationships, finances, habits, struggles, joys, and decisions. The gospel speaks to what we believe. It also teaches us how to live in the present age as people who belong to the kingdom of God.
