This week we are talking about the overuse of “culture” as a lens with which to view a person, place, group, or event. As we often say in our training courses, “culture is merely context” and although it may help to understand certain cultural differences, we don’t feel that it’s as important as people make it out to be.

During the episode we define what we mean by culture, and we discuss the different ways people choose to be a part of or adopt cultural norms and beliefs. We also talk about the phrase “perception is reality” and how humans naturally fear things they don’t understand which can cause them to make errors in judgment that cost people their lives.
