Supernatural: Folsom Prison Blues (2x19) | Recap & Lore

Season 2 Episode 19 Published 3 years, 6 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 2, Episode 19, Folsom Prison Blues recap 🚓 Sam and Dean get themselves arrested ON PURPOSE to investigate a haunted prison, Agent Henriksen is back and sassier than ever, and Dean fits in behind bars a little too well on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Also, not ONE Johnny Cash song in this episode. We're disappointed.

Inmates and guards at the Green River Correctional Facility are dropping dead of heart attacks, and Deacon, an old Marine buddy of John Winchester's, calls in a favor. So the boys go full undercover inmate, orange jumpsuits and all, with a little help from their public defender, Mara (Bridget White), and a very determined FBI agent, Victor Henriksen (Charles Malik Whitfield), who is basically the Van Helsing to their Dracula.

Episode Highlights:

  • Agent Henriksen's return, and his obsession with the Winchesters (we get it)
  • The inmate in the yard pointing at Sam: You're mine. This is not Sam's place.
  • Dean referencing famous prison movies throughout the entire episode
  • Crazy Eyes and Tiny, and Dean's cafeteria fight (not much of a fight)
  • Sam's secret mission through the air shaft to salt and burn
  • Those pop-top salt containers (we want one)
  • A creepy ghost with crazy hair and crazy eyes
  • Sam and Dean's carefully staged fake fight, about the case, of course
  • Deacon, the sweetest surrogate dad a Winchester could ask for
  • Dean being SO at ease in prison, and Jensen Ackles clearly having a blast

In the lore segment, we tour America's most haunted prisons: Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, the castle-like Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield (where The Shawshank Redemption was filmed), Alcatraz (Shane and Ryan went there!), the Missouri State Penitentiary (once called the bloodiest 47 acres in America), West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, and the Squirrel Cage Jail in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Plus, a certain dreamboat from west of the Mississippi.

Henriksen: "You think you're real funny."
Dean: "I think I'm adorable."

Your turn, hunters: Would you survive a night in any of these haunted prisons? And which prison movie reference did Dean nail best?
