In this episode we talk to Christy Fredrick who went back to school in the pandemic to pursue a degree in Chicano Studies and found community and compassion for her lineage and her journey. Christy shares her experience growing up in an evangelical home and the pressure to assimilate as a Brown girl in a white church. Christy and Cynthia talk about breaking generational patterns and learning grace for themselves from their children.
Christy is a senior at the University of New Mexico and a Chicanx Studies major. She is a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow and her research focuses on Chicanas in the Evangelical Church. She currently lives in Albuquerque with her partner and their three kids.
