Description
Supernatural Season 2, Episode 18, Hollywood Babylon recap 🎥 The boys go undercover on the Hollywood set of a cheesy horror movie, Hell Hazers II: The Reckoning, where the set really might be haunted, in Supernatural's first full-on meta episode, on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. After all the sad episodes this season, we NEEDED this one.
On the studio lot, Sam and Dean hop off a studio tour to investigate a crew member's death. The exec (Gary Cole of Office Space) assumes Dean's a production assistant and sends him for smoothies, and Dean leans ALL the way into it: headset, tool belt, craft services, and yelling cut after the director does. But as people keep dying on set, the boys realize the ghosts have been invited in.
Episode Highlights:
- All the meta jokes (Gilmore Girls, real movies, cameos, we lost track)
- Sam calling the LA weather almost Canadian (if you know where they filmed, you get it)
- Dean nerding out about Creepshow on the studio tour
- Dean as the world's most enthusiastic PA, eating ALL the craft services
- A Supernatural Then and Now fun fact about Jensen and set food
- The lead actress (Elizabeth Whitmere) Dean fangirls over, and her very interesting hobby
- A producer played by Don Stark (Donna's dad on That '70s Show!)
- Our sixth blood splooge of the series, and the chunkiest by far (thanks, giant fan)
- The tiniest moped we've ever seen
In the lore segment, we dig into Hollywood's most cursed movie sets: Atuk, whose would-be stars included John Belushi, John Candy, Chris Farley, and Phil Hartman; Poltergeist, its real human skeletons, and a clown puppet Steven Spielberg had to pry off a child actor; The Exorcist and the fire that mysteriously spared Regan's room; The Conjuring franchise, from Annabelle to The Nun; and the buzz-building tricks of The Blair Witch Project.
"Maybe the spirits are trying to shut down the movie because they think it sucks." – Sam Winchester
