Description

It's unthinkable that we're recovering from another school shooting that took the lives of innocent children and adults. Child and adolescent counselor, Sissy Goff shares helpful ideas on how to talk with kids after a tragedy like this. This content originated on Sissy's IG (@sissygoff) on Monday, March 27 in the aftermath of the shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, TN. We pray your conversations lead to hope and healing.

How to Talk to Your Kids After a School Shooting:

  1. Stay Calm
  2. Be the Source.
  3. Let them lead.
  4. Give them space to feel.
  5. It's okay to feel with them, not to process with them.
  6. Answer questions age-appropriately and honestly.
  7. Talk about what they can control.
  8. Look for the helpers. Be one.
  9. Ask what would help them feel safe at school.
  10. Don't feel like you have to have all the answers.
  11. Remind them of truth you know.
