Supernatural: Houses of the Holy (2x13) | Recap & Lore

Season 2 Episode 13 Published 3 years, 7 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 2, Episode 13, Houses of the Holy recap ⛪ People in Providence, Rhode Island, are murdering sinners because an angel told them to, Sam starts to believe, and Dean is NOT buying it on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. (Fun fact: the episode shares its name with Led Zeppelin's 1973 album.)

A woman named Gloria (Heather Doerksen), stuck in a psych ward, swears a bright white light told her to kill. Sam goes undercover as a hospital orderly, and the boys learn she's not the only one. Another man in town also says he was visited by an angel with orders to kill someone who deserved it. Sam, struggling with his own fears about becoming evil, starts to wonder if angels might be real... and if one might be looking out for him. Dean? He'll believe in angels when he sees one.

Episode Highlights:

  • Sammy in the white scrubs (we rewound it a few times)
  • Bad Time Betty (aka Gloria), who looked like she slept in her makeup three nights in a row
  • Dean's coin-operated Magic Fingers vibrating bed
  • Some VERY early talk of archangels and flaming swords (if you know, you know)
  • Dean, the ultimate skeptic, on angels: a big ol' NOPE
  • Dad's journal making a comeback
  • The boys' very well-decorated motel rooms (who designs these?!)
  • A Final Destination-style death that's straight-up an act of God
  • Sam's heartbreaking talk with Dean about faith
  • Dean's maybe-sign at the very end, set to Knockin' on Heaven's Door (perfect)

In the lore segment, we look at Bible verses about killing, and the chilling real-life case of Stanley Mossburg, who was arrested in Winter Haven, Florida, in 2019 for killings he claimed God told him to commit, and who insisted, "I'm a prophet, not a serial killer."

Sam: "Dean, there's 10 times as much lore about angels as there is about anything else we've ever hunted."
Dean: "You know what? There's a ton of lore on unicorns, too. In fact, I hear they ride on silver moonbeams and shoot rainbows out of their ass."
Sam: "Wait, there's no such thing as unicorns?"
