Lots of chatter in the legal world about non-economic caps, shortened statutes of limitations, and "actual cost" limits on medical billing recovery.  Both Florida and Iowa have added major tort reform laws to the books in the past year.  As with any law, these come with significant unintended consequences.

In Florida, we've seen a rush of cases to the Courthouse as lawyers scrambled to file thousands of auto accident injury cases before the new rules kicked in.

In Iowa, we see perverse disincentive to settle cases on behalf of insurance companies in light of new laws protecting hospitals, medical providers, and - of all things - trucking companies.
