Side note: money is amoral. It is a tool that can be used for good or for bad. We know you’re going to use it for good, so get over your shyness and get ready to have an incredible financial future full of opportunities and generosity!

The first status is chaos. During this status, you have no idea what’s going on financially. Typically, you’re scared or overwhelmed about what’s going on so you just ignore it. This doesn’t mean you’re not making ends meet. It usually just means you make good money but have nothing to show for it. It means you aren’t sure how to make financial decisions, so you wing it or use debt.

The second status happens when you organize your finances to get out of debt. Debt is a thief that keeps you paying for the past rather than funding the future. Regular, wealthy, financially independent people aren’t using debt or credit scores as a measure of any success, trust us. In fact, we have a saying we like to use:

“The poor pay interest, while the rich earn interest.”

The Third Law of Wealth from the Richest Man in Babylon

The third status is when you’ve gotten out of debt and have set up a solid investment plan and you understand when you will be financially independent. In this stage, you’ll start piling up cash in your emergency fund, your vacation and gift-giving accounts as well your investments and anything else you are excited to fund.

So, where are you? We hope to get you into that third status with this book. If you use each system we list in this workbook, you’ll be on your way!
