Why is Child Marriage Still legal in The U.S.?
Episode 55
Published 3 years ago
Description
According to a recent report, the West Virginia state legislature passed a bill to address child marriage in the state. The bill now requires any child between the ages of 16 and 17 to obtain parental consent. In addition they can not marry someone more than four years older than them. Insanely, West Virginia is not the only state to still have child marriage protected by law. As of 2023, child marriage for those under 18 years old is still legal in the majority of the United States. In this episode I review child marriage in the US, its effects on young girls and remedies to protect young girls from becoming young brides.
