Tom Petty said, “some say life will beat you down, break your heart, steal your crown”. That seems like a rather pessimistic take on life! However, we add pessimism to our heads. Perhaps Petty wasn’t referring to this as an inherently bad thing. Tragedy, heat break, etc. are viewed as indifferents in Stoicism, but they could also be viewed as good if we use them to improve our character.
