It's not true that the rich don't pay their fair share in taxes, and states like; California, Washington, New Jersey, Illinois, and New York are proving it. The richest Americans are fleeing these states for friendlier tax jurisdictions and taking their $250 billion in government revenue with them leaving those that remain with fewer resources for their states to distribute. Some people just have to "touch the stove" to find out that it is hot. Lessons like these are hard to learn but are inevitable in a world with limited resources. This is always the lesson of economics. Maybe during good times, you can suspend reality temporarily, but as Warren Buffett said, "It is during times when the tide is low that we get to see who has been swimming naked." Many of these "BLUE" states have been swimming naked for a long time!
