This week’s Urban Valor episode features Navy veteran Cory Vigil. During Cory’s initial enlistment, he worked the aircraft catapult, a device that allows aircraft to take off from minimal space. He was honorably discharged in 2000, but after 9/11, he was recalled in 2002. 

This time he went in as a Corpsman attached to a Marine unit. Cory conducted a combat deployment to Iraq and talked about a tragic incident involving him trying to save the life of a wounded Marine and friend in which the Marine succumbed to his injury. 

Cory talks about his difficult transition, including getting into an altercation with a man his wife cheated on him with and the man’s two brothers, which ultimately landed Cory in jail. 

He leaves us with how he overcame these challenges and eventually embedded himself deep into the veteran community doing outstanding work.
