Back to EpisodesBears, Rainbows, and fly fishing the Alaskan backcountry with Abe Blair
Description
Our destination is Intricate Bay Lodge on Lake Iliamna, Alaska with backcountry fly fishing guide and professional photographer, Abe Blair, Manager of "The Outpost". Lake Iliamna is the 8th largest lake in North America and boasts the largest sockeye salmon run in the world, not to mention a dozen of the finest rainbow rivers in Alaska and plenty of bears.
Abe grew up in Oregon where he discovered fly fishing and had a life-changing injury at age 18 when he shattered his skull in a go-cart accident. Fortunately, he made a full recovery and has been fly fishing and photographing the world ever since. Abe shares stories of massive salmon runs, giant rainbows, close calls with bears, guiding demanding clients, Jimmy Carter and his Secret Service guys, along with great tips on how to get stunning shots with your iPhone.
