Description
Supernatural Season 2, Episode 4, Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things recap 🧟♀️ It's the Supernatural zombie episode: a dead college girl comes back, and she is FAST, while Dean is still drowning in grief on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast. Fun fact: the title comes from a 1972 horror comedy with a $50,000 budget. This episode is not a comedy, but we laughed anyway.
In Greenville, Illinois, a college student named Angela dies in a car wreck, and her grieving friend Neil and her ex-boyfriend Matt both have a lot of feelings about it. The boys arrive after a stop at their mom's grave in Lawrence, where Sam buries Dad's dog tags, and they find dead grass in a perfect circle around a grave nearby: signs of unholy ground. Turns out someone's been dabbling in ancient Greek necromancy, and Angela is not staying in the ground.
Episode Highlights:
- Sam burying Dad's dog tags at Mary's grave (we're not crying, you're crying)
- Dean the professor, interrogating Angela's poor dad about his ancient Greek book
- Neil, the sweet, maybe-too-sweet best friend
- Our fifth (and very minimal) blood splooge, right onto the TV screen
- Sam being too tall for the basement
- Angela's roommate Lindsey and a pair of scissors (great shot)
- A fast zombie! This is not The Walking Dead. This is World War Z.
- The boys using themselves as bait at the cemetery
- A stake, a coffin, and one very cranky zombie. "Silver bullets won't do much, but they'll rattle her like a change purse."
- Dean's single tear, and finally opening up to Sam about Dad
In the lore segment, we dig into whether zombies could be real, from a 1997 study in The Lancet on reports of Haitian zombies to Cotard's syndrome, a rare psychiatric condition where people believe they're dead or decomposing, plus the creepy real-world parasites that turn their hosts into little incubators.
"Damn, that dead chick can run." – Dean Winchester
