Bryn Nelson is a PhD microbiologist who changed course to become an award-winning science journalist. In addition to several years as a staff writer at Newsday, focusing on genetics, stem cell research, evolution, ecology, and conservation, he has written for dozens of other news outlets as well, including the New York Times, Nature, and the BMJ, among others. His writing has garnered nearly a dozen awards for pieces on health, medicine, and ecology. His recently published book, Flush: The Remarkable Science of an Unlikely Treasure is the subject of today’s interview.
