7 Causes Of Cognitive Distortion

  1. All-or-nothing thinking: This involves thinking in absolute terms, such as "I either succeed or fail, there's no middle ground." 
  2. Overgeneralization: This is when you draw broad conclusions based on one or two experiences.
  3. Mental Filter: This is when you focus on the negative and ignore the positive. 
  4. Disqualifying the Positive: This is when you dismiss positive experiences or accomplishments as unimportant. 
  5. Mind Reading: This is when you assume you know what others are thinking without any evidence. 
  6. Fortune Telling: This is when you predict a negative outcome without evidence.
  7. Magnification (Catastrophizing) or Minimization: This is when you either blow things out of proportion or shrink their importance.
