Episode Details

Supernatural Season 1, Episode 21, Salvation recap ⛪ The season one finale two-parter kicks off as the Yellow-Eyed Demon targets another family, Meg is on the warpath, and all three Winchesters race against the clock on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

The episode opens in Blue Earth, Minnesota, where our sassy favorite, Meg (Nicki Aycox), strolls into Pastor Jim's church and discovers he's a hunter with a VERY impressive arsenal. Meanwhile, John shares 20 years of research on the demon that killed Mary, and Sam's visions lead the family to Salvation, Iowa, where a mom named Monica (Erin Karpluk) and her six-month-old baby are next on the demon's list. With Meg picking off John's friends one by one and demanding the Colt, John decides it ends now, no matter what it takes.

Episode Highlights:

• Meg catching a thrown knife inches from her face (iconic)
• John's gadget truck trunk (we'll never get over it)
• The Winchesters casing every nursery in town
• Dean flirting with the hot nurse (creep)
• Our observation that there are hot guys in EVERY episode (not a complaint)
• The creepiest newborn introduction ever
• Dean finally standing up to Dad about who was there for whom
• A mysterious (and hot) new demon who shows up with a gun
• The nursery fire, and Dean doing what he has to do
• A cliffhanger that picks up in Devil's Trap

In the lore segment, we dig into where demons come from: how belief in demons shows up across religion, mythology, occultism, and pop culture, and how Supernatural's demons compare. Part two of our demon lore comes with Devil's Trap.

In memory of Nicki Aycox (1975–2022): We were devastated to learn that Nicki Aycox, who played Meg in season one, passed away from leukemia in November 2022. She was a guest on Boy Meets World and 3rd Rock from the Sun and starred in Jeepers Creepers 2, but for us, she'll always be sassy, iconic Meg.
