Poe Versus Dahmer, Part 2

Poe Versus Dahmer, Part 2

Season 2 Episode 159

Send us a text

Episode 159 is the second part of a comparison between The Cask of Amontillado and Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.  George first points out how Poe felt that a “unified effect” was essential to a story.  Poe would feel that a shorter work like The Cask of Amontillado could express a unity of effect, while Dahmer (with its almost 10 hour length) is definitely overlong in comparison. George also points out why many people legitimately feel that the miniseries exploited the victims and their tragedies for corporate profit.

  • In what ways is Dahmer similar to The Cask of Amontillado?
  • How does Dahmer exploit the victims of a serial character and their families?
  • It is generally felt that Episode Six (Silenced) was the best episode. Why?
  • Which episode gave the victim a significant back story?
  • How is Dahmer an insult to gay people?

00:01 Introduction

  • 25:53 Was Dahmer gay?
