Frederick Hayek's famous book, "The Road to Serfdom" has been read by millions and is a favorite of those who previously lived under socialist regimes. One of the biggest fans of Hayek's book was Yuri Maltsev who defected to the US after working as an economist in the USSR under Gorbachev. I'm sad to report that Yuri passed away last week. I wanted to pay tribute to his contribution to our understanding of how these brutal regimes work, and more importantly, familiarize ourselves with the characteristics so we can notice them in our own society. The battle between liberty and tyranny is ongoing and Yuri Maltsev helped us immensely with our understanding of this eternal battle.
