Description
Supernatural Season 1, Episode 16, Shadow recap 👤 Meg is back, invisible demons called daevas are ripping out hearts in Chicago, and the Winchesters are on the verge of their biggest hunt yet on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.
The episode opens with a trendy young woman in her early-2000s finest (skinny scarf, low-rise jeans, iPod) who gets home, resets her alarm, and is attacked by a giant shadow anyway. The boys roll in posing as security system repairmen (the landlady calls the alarm about as useless as tits on a man, and she's a delight) and discover a Zoroastrian symbol at the scene. Then who should Sam run into at the bar but Meg (Nicki Aycox), the cute blonde from Scarecrow, who is now dogging on Dean for how he treats Sam. Know your place, Meg.
Episode Highlights:
- The early-2000s fashion (we all had those skinny scarves)
- Sam and Dean poking at dried blood with their bare hands (why?!)
- Dean researching Meg Masters and finding her actual high school photo
- Sam dreaming about life after the demon, and Dean being personally offended at the idea of Sam going back to college

In the lore segment, we dig into the daevas of Zoroastrianism, one of the world's oldest religions: how they went from gods to chaotic demons in the Younger Avesta, how they became the div of Persian and Islamic folklore, and how the word even landed in William Beckford's 18th-century novel Vathek. Plus, why they reminded us of the shadow demons in Ghost.
