Cosmic Rays, Electric Weather, & Stellar Anomalies - Dr. Nir Shaviv, Astrophysicist

Season 1 Episode 107 Published 3 years, 4 months ago
Description

These days, spring comes at strange times, winter barely arrives, and summer seems like it will never end. Conventional wisdom points to a single molecular cause - the rising tide of CO2 from increasing human activity. But that's an incomplete story, says Astrophysicist Nir Shaviv. It treats the Earth like it floats unmolested through the black night of the universe. But the full story is bigger, and weirder, and much more cosmic. We interview him about his cosmic ray theory of climate, cloud formation, and electricity.

PODCAST INFO:  Anastasia completed her PhD studying bioelectricity at Columbia University. When not talking to brilliant people or making movies, she spends her time painting, reading, and guiding backcountry excursions. Michael Shilo also did his PhD at Columbia studying the elastic properties of molecular water. When he's not in the film studio, he's exploring sound in music. They are both freelance professors at various universities.
