The small, electric lamp cast a dull, industrial, patch of light across the desk blotter where Mags worked on paperwork.  

The desk was cluttered.  

She was very tired.  

She lifted her hands and rubbed her tired eyes with balled fists. She was feeling worn out and knew she should probably get some sleep.
