Penn State running back Nick Singleton was back in early-season form on Saturday, rushing for 122 yards on only 11 carries before the backups filtered in during the fourth quarter. Singleton scored two explosive runs, both of which came on fourth and short. The freshman ran like a man possessed, with multiple broken tackles and great vision. Not to be outdone, fellow freshman Kaytron Allen chipped in 76 yards on the evening.
On the flip side, Maryland kept a lid on Penn State's passing attack. Unfortunately for starter Sean Clifford that meant a slow night with only 139 yards passing on 12 completions. The senior quarterback was frustrated all afternoon and seldom found open receivers.
However, the team still moved the ball, collecting three field goals to end the second quarter and then into the third.
The Penn State defense smothered Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa who struggled with pressure for the second straight week. Manny Diaz's defense racked up seven sacks and limited Maryland to one yard per-carry before the game was out of reach.
The Nittany Lions' march towards ten wins continues next week when they hit the road to face Rutgers at 3:30.
Penn State ran over Maryland on the way to it's eighth win of the season.
