Description

Hello friends,

Welcome back to my Saturday coffee klatch with my colleague Heather Lofthouse (Executive Director of Inequality Media Civic Action — and my former student), where we talk about the highs and lows of the week over morning coffee.

I’m off this week so have once again invited Heather and Michael Lahanas-Calderón (Director of Digital Strategy at Inequality Media Civic Action, and a proud Ohioan) to chat in my absence.

I look forward to being back for next week’s klatch, including as there will be much to discuss right before the midterm elections.

Today they cover:

* What it might mean for Elon Musk to have acquired Twitter; is it about free speech, or power?

* The dangerous upsurge in recorded threats against members of Congress.

* The phenomenon of voter rolloff and the importance of down-ballot races.

* Weekend plans to fight cynicism and stay hopeful.

This is our latest video on the importance of down-ballot voting:

Go to these websites for more information, including voter guides:

* Sister District

* The States Project

* Bolts Magazine

* People’s Action

Thank you to Guy Brenner for today’s theme song, and to all of you for listening.
