Civil rights are primarily secured through constitutional guarantees and laws like the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which aim to prevent discrimination and enforce equality in society. The American Civil Rights Movement fought to end segregation and disenfranchisement, leading to pivotal legal changes protecting vulnerable groups and upholding democratic principles.

Freedom of religion is the fundamental right to hold any belief (or none), practice it through worship, observance, and teaching, and to change faiths, protected by laws like the U.S. Constitution's First Amendment, ensuring governments don't establish a religion or unduly interfere with personal faith, though this freedom isn't absolute and must coexist with other laws. It protects both theistic and non-theistic views, allowing for religious expression, attire, and accommodation, while also upholding the separation of church and state.
