Fishtales: Gus Dannoun (Sydney Fish Market) - for the love of seafood

Published 3 years, 5 months ago
Description

The Sydney Fishmarket is one of the most iconic fish markets in the world and is now the biggest in the southern hemisphere handling around 15,000 tonnes of seafood a year.

As Australia’s ‘home of seafood’, Sydney Fish Market is the lifeblood for fishers, aquaculturalists and co-operatives from not only around the country but also New Zealand and even Indonesia and Malaysia . The Market is currently undergoing a redevelopment which, when completed in 2024 promises a state-of-the-art facility – befitting a waterfront icon on par with the Sydney Opera House.

Gus Danoon is a 40 year veteran of not only the Sydney Fish market but of the Australian Seafood industry. Over his time at SFM Gus has been a driver of change, overseeing it’s transition from a rough and tumble clearing house to one of the most sophisticated and progressive seafood markets in the world.
